MORONI, Utah (KUTV) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed five people were arrested in Moroni following reports of immigration enforcement activity at or near a local turkey processing plant late Wednesday and early Thursday.
KUTV received reports of a possible ICE operation at the Moroni turkey processing plant and contacted the agency to ask whether arrests had been made and how many people were taken into custody.
An ICE spokesperson confirmed five arrests were made Sept. 30 but said the enforcement effort did not target a local business.
“ICE arrested five illegal aliens Sept. 30 and no local businesses were targeted as a part of this effort,” the spokesperson said.
ICE described the arrests as part of ongoing immigration enforcement operations conducted by its Enforcement and Removal Operations officers across the country.
“Every day ICE ERO officers are conducting immigration enforcement operations throughout the United States, including the city of Moroni,” the spokesperson said. “Citizens and legal residents should find reassurance in the presence of trained law enforcement officers removing criminals and illegal aliens from their streets.”
ICE did not provide additional information about the five people arrested, including their identities, whether they worked at the turkey processing plant or where the arrests occurred.
