Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport plans to hire taxicab company to address shortage

A year ago, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was struggling to hire as many taxis companies as it wanted. It is now filling that gap.

Though taxi trips at the airport have dramatically reduced since the introduction of rideshare services like Uber and Lyft, Phoenix Aviation Department staff still views it as a key ground transportation option.

“Ensuring the travelling public has different options and services is important, and the taxicab industry is a major piece of those offerings,” Deputy Aviation Director Mike O’Shaughnessy told the Phoenix Aviation Business and Development Subcommittee on Thursday.
