VP of Public Affairs & Government Relations, Lighthouse of Broward

For more than two decades, Jose Lopez-Masso has dedicated his career to improving the lives of individuals who are blind and visually impaired while serving as a respected leader throughout South Florida. As Senior Vice President of Public Affairs & Government Relations at Lighthouse of Broward, he’s become a powerful advocate for accessibility, inclusion, employment opportunities, and community engagement, work rooted in his own journey. After losing his vision to glaucoma as a young adult, Jose transformed that life-changing challenge into a lifelong commitment to helping others, refusing to let blindness define him and instead becoming an example of resilience and leadership. At Lighthouse of Broward, Jose leads government relations, public affairs, corporate partnerships, and philanthropic initiatives that generate critical funding for children, adults, seniors, veterans, and families living with vision loss. His leadership has helped secure significant investments from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and community partners, expanding opportunities for thousands of individuals throughout Broward County. Beyond fundraising, he’s built lasting relationships with civic leaders, elected officials, and businesses across South Florida, increasing awareness of disability inclusion while forging partnerships that improve education, employment, healthcare access, and independent living for the blind and visually impaired community. Jose is equally passionate about mentoring others and promoting leadership within the Hispanic community, known for his integrity, compassion, and ability to unite people around a shared mission of building a more inclusive, accessible community. That commitment has been widely recognized: in 2025 he received the Outstanding Fundraising Executive Award from the AFP Broward Chapter, one of the nonprofit sector’s highest honors, and was named a Miami Marvel by the Miami Herald. In 2026, American Heritage Schools honored him as its Volunteer of the Year for his dedication to mentoring students and inspiring the next generation of community leaders. Throughout his career, Jose has been guided by one simple belief, that every person deserves the opportunity to live independently, pursue their dreams, and reach their full potential regardless ofdisability.
