The developer behind AT&T’s new Plano headquarters said in a series of state filings that it plans to start on the billion-dollar project in December.
A limited liability company affiliated with Dallas-based developer KDC filed 11 projects Wednesday covering different portions of the Plano campus on Wednesday. Construction costs for the buildings and parking garages top $1 billion. Construction is expected to start Dec. 1 and be finished by March 31, 2029, according to records from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
AT&T and KDC declined to answer questions about the filings.
No filing for Building 5 could be found in state records.
AT&T announced in January that it was moving its headquarters from downtown Dallas to a 54-acre campus at 5400 Legacy Drive in Plano.
The Plano City Council approved a $20 million incentive package and a lengthy tax rebate to support the project. It was the largest incentive package granted to a private employer in the city’s history.
Under the terms of the Chapter 380 agreement, AT&T must spend at least of $1.35 billion in construction costs on the project.
The Fortune 50 telecom giant must also build a minimum of 2 million square feet of office, amenity and retail space at the site, eventually employ 10,000 full-time workers at the property and occupy the planned headquarters for 25 years.
In addition to the $20 million in grants, the firm will also receive a 65% property tax rebate on improvements made at the site over 25 years, starting in 2030. The rebate could be extended for an additional decade at 25% if AT&T purchases the site.
The AT&T campus will replace the former Electronic Data Systems headquarters, the company founded by Ross Perot Sr. Much of the campus has been torn down. The futuristic executive office buildings, dubbed the “God Pod,” were imploded in early August.
AT&T CEO John Stankey previously said the firm could partially occupy the new campus by the second half of 2028.
State filings show the owner of the headquarters project is KDC Legacy Eagle HQ Development One, LLC. A KDC-affiliated LLC purchased the 54-acre site where AT&T is building the campus from affiliates of Dallas-based NexPoint Development.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
