Three-term Democratic Treasurer Deb Goldberg and her entitled arrogance are on the Massachusetts ballot this November 3 and voters should not forget what she’s done to one of the most important state offices on the ballot.
Goldberg refuses to debate because she’s afraid to have her 12-year record scrutinized — not a good look for somebody in charge of the state treasury.
In her dozen years sleeping on the job and traveling back and forth from her luxury homes, what has Goldberg ever identified as wasteful spending of the state treasury?
Goldberg is yet another wealthy, privileged Democratic hack. She was just a lowly Brookline selectwoman when she was elected in 2014, her only claim to fame is her family’s Stop & Shop supermarket chain.
The Globe describes the Treasurer’s position as “relatively obscure,” but it’s maybe the most significant statewide office on the ballot on Nov. 3 — including that of governor and senator.
Goldberg is the state’s chief financial officer who manages one-fifth of the state budget. Her office oversees the state’s multibillion-dollar Lottery, the $129 billion state retirement fund and until recently the lucrative cannabis industry.
Goldberg wasted more than $1 million in taxpayer money in her unsuccessful bid to oust the state’s cannabis chair, Shannon O’Brien.
O’Brien has now filed an expensive lawsuit against Goldberg, which could cost the state more millions.
“The lawyers have told me don’t say a word about Shannon O’Brien,” Goldberg told the Globe.
Sounds like a convenient way to avoid defending her job performance. It also could be a good campaign slogan for Goldberg’s opponent, Republican Elizabeth Dionne.
Most voters would probably not remember Goldberg but for her clumsy and ill-advised attempt to get rid of O’Brien. She told the Globe the O’Brien affair is “unfairly” dominating the race. What arrogance.
A judge ruled that Goldberg’s rationale for firing O’Brien was “thin gruel” for meeting the legal standard.
Even Democratic legislative leaders obviously don’t think too much of the job Goldberg has done, because they took away her power over the Cannabis Control Commission.
Voters should take a close look at this race, and learn more about Dionne instead of just automatically rejecting a Republican.
