SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WCYB) — The Sullivan County Public Library will offer free technology classes and laptops beginning next month through a Broadband Ready Communities program.
The classes will teach participants basic computer skills, how to navigate the internet safely and securely, and other digital skills.
The program is designed to support adults ages 60 and older, veterans and individuals seeking employment.
Participants who complete 10 hours of class instruction will receive a free Chromebook.
Course offerings range from basic internet skills to more advanced instruction focused on job readiness. Participants can learn how to use digital tools commonly required in the workplace, including Google Drive, spreadsheets and documents.
Christina Sawyers, general manager of the Blountville Public Library, said the more advanced classes will help participants develop skills they can use in a professional setting.
“We would go a little bit more in depth into, you know, maybe using Google Drive and workplace. You know, looking at spreadsheets, docs, those kinds of things that you would use as you work a regular job,” Sawyers said.
The program aims to help participants build confidence using technology while improving their access to digital resources and employment opportunities.
