There’s an old adage that patience is a virtue and that theory could be proven true in the near future.
For about a year, Clemson waited on Cortez Mills, arguably its top wide receiver target in the 2025 class, to get back to campus. After working out at camp last summer, Mills didn’t get back to Clemson until the big official visit weekend earlier in June. He was supposed to visit for the spring game, but a scheduling conflict kept that from happening.
“The visit went great,” Mills told The Clemson Insider. “It’s a great program and I just enjoyed my time there. Just showed me the culture is super different, and there’s no other college that’s like that.”
For months, Miami has been perceived at the Tigers’ biggest competition and while Clemson knocked it out of the park on Mills’ official visit, the 4-star wideout still had an official scheduled with Miami that needed to take place. Until Tuesday.
Mills has now announced that he will no longer be taking an official to Miami this weekend, and if you are a Clemson fan, that is huge news. Being from South Florida, Mills has already visited numerous times throughout the process, but the fact that he will no longer take an official bodes really well for Clemson’s chances.

Mills is fresh off an official to Oklahoma and also took one to Florida earlier this month. However, this has been viewed as a Clemson-Miami battle down the stretch.
The Tigers already have one receiver committed in 4-star Ju Ju Preston and have been looking to add one more player at the position. Adding Mills would be a huge boost to a class that is already ranked inside of the Top 5 by most recruiting services, as the wideout ranks No. 69 overall at Rivals and No. 14 among all receivers.
