Here’s how the owners of the Five Points soul food restaurant plan to capture some magic in their new location.
DENVER — A drywall shipment and building materials litter the floor at Welton Street Cafe’s new location on 29th and Welton Street. Nestled between a taco spot and an empty commercial space, the team is working to open the eatery’s doors.
Welton Street Cafe has been serving soul food to Denverites for nearly four decades and has been a staple in the Five Points neighborhood for more than 20 years.
Welton Street Cafe has survived a lot — a gentrifying neighborhood, a global pandemic, a broken HVAC system that left the kitchen uninhabitable on hot days — by leaning into the support shown by its loyal customer base.
Now, as the soul food icon prepares to reopen in a new location, the team is focused on making sure its patrons love the new space as much as they did the old.
