The announcement was made official on Monday, June 17, through a D-Wave press release and live on stage during the Qubits 2024 quantum computing conference in Boston. Dale Moore from Davidson Technologies shared the exciting news, stressing the strategic importance of this investment.

“Davidson Technologies is an advanced technology firm based in Huntsville, Alabama,” Moore began. “Our primary focus is providing unique solutions to our national security customers for the United States defense environment.” Moore further elaborated on the company’s mission, stating: “We build software, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and machine learning algorithms. We also build cybersecurity platforms.”

The partnership with D-Wave is a significant milestone for Davidson.

“I am really thrilled and pleased to announce that we, with D-Wave as a partnership, are bringing an Advantage system to our new headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama, sometime in the next 8 to 10 months,” Moore expressed with enthusiasm, while also highlighting that this would be the first system of its kind in Alabama, and the second in the US, marking a notable achievement for both Davidson and the state.

Huntsville, with its rich history in space exploration and technology innovation, is the perfect location for this advanced system.

“If you’re not familiar with Huntsville and its history, going back to the Apollo programs, the mission to the Moon under President Kennedy, the town is ripe for this type of innovation,” Moore said. He also noted the state’s support for technological advancements: “The state of Alabama is a big supporter of how we advance technology to support not just the defense application but commercial space and other components of what we’re doing in this country to be a leader in technology.”

The D-Wave Advantage quantum computer will be housed in a secure environment at Davidson’s new facility, which opened in April. Moore detailed the future plans: “We are building out our facility to house this computer and are working to get it to a secure environment where we can really utilize the technology to solve some very complex problems for the national security programs of the United States.”

This development represents a major step forward in Davidson’s mission to support US defense with cutting-edge technology.

“We are excited to utilize this technology to address some of the most challenging problems in national security,” Moore concluded.

With the installation expected to be completed by 2025, Davidson Technologies is poised to make significant contributions to the field of quantum computing and national defense, further solidifying Huntsville’s position as a hub for technological innovation.
