SAN ANTONIO — Beryl has stranded some San Antonio residents on summer vacation and as it makes landfall along the Texas Coast, many others will also be affected.
Local travel agent Crystal Reyes, says it’s important for travelers to be patient and understanding anytime delays occur.
“You have to remember that high season for travel is right smack in the middle of hurricane season,” said Crystal Reyes, Travel Agent Agency, JBSA ITT.
Reyes says travelers need to be prepared, expect, and anticipate delays especially during hurricane season.
“It just causes a little chaos,” said Reyes.
Since last week, Reyes says she has been busy helping clients, as Beryl has been making it’s way to the Texas Coast.
“We were really, strong on reschedules and cancellations, and trying to get people either back or not going,” said Reyes.
The chaos that Beryl created left some travelers in the Caribbean stranded.
“Right now we do have a few people that were in Jamaica. They were supposed to depart out on, the 3rd or the 4th of July that weren’t allowed to,” said Reyes.
Reyes says resorts and cruises have been accommodating, but she recommends checking cancellation policies, and travel insurance.
According to Reyes some will offer ‘Cancel for any reason’ refunds, but most will give you a credit, some will even cover lost baggage or medical, if you get sick or injured.
“People that are traveling, you’re spending, thousands of dollars protect your investment for sure. It’s definitely well worth it,” said Reyes.
If you are traveling to affected areas Reyes says, plan ahead.
“Definitely contact the resort, check your maps, check the areas going in. Roads may be closed. You may not even be able to get to that resort. If you’re flying in for any reason, check the airport. Download the apps for your airlines,” said Reyes.
