Houston could see hazy skies later this week as Saharan dust is expected to enter the region on Wednesday and through Friday. This could make breathing a little harder for people with respiratory issues as the dust is as a result of wind storms off the coast of Africa that send the dust across the Atlantic.
Brian Kyle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says it’s best to listen to your doctor on those issues.
“It’s always a good plan to follow your doctor’s recommendations which may include staying inside, limiting activity during the afternoon hours,” he said.
“It’s not particularly good for hurricane development. Not to say that it can’t happen, but usually, hurricanes and tropical systems need some moist air,” he said. “So whenever we do have dust it’s typically a little bit less tropical activity. But just like any dust storm, the plumes come and go. So still have a long ways left through hurricane season.”
