OZAUKEE COUNTY — Mexican restaurants are in the works in both Mequon and Cedarburg.
In Mequon, a Mexican restaurant will soon occupy the former Noodles and Company space located at 10942 North Port Washington Road in the Mequon Pavilions.
The Illinois-based Taco Pros, which first opened in 2019, is expanding to Wisconsin this year with four new locations — two in Milwaukee, one in West Allis and the one in Mequon. Its menu includes a variety of appetizers, tacos, enchiladas, tortas, burritos and protein bowls, as well as kids options and desserts.
“Inspired by the gastronomic art of Mexico, Taco Pros aims to transport you to the flavors of Mexican Tianguis (market) street foods,” according to its website. “We take pride in investing in quality ingredients to ensure our customers get the great taste we’re famous for, because our vision is to present the purest flavors of Mexico.”
City of Mequon Assistant Director Community Development Jac Zader told the News Graphic that the restaurant only needs a business occupancy permit, as it can take over the conditional use for the previous one as long as they comply with the conditions. It was not required to be discussed at a meeting.
Rekapaint L.L.C. confirmed that construction will wrap soon and that the restaurant is expected to open by the end of this month.
In Cedarburg, a new restaurant is coming into the former Dairy Queen in Cedarburg.
The city of Cedarburg considered granting a liquor license to Alonso Aranda Canchola for La Cantina Mexican Restaurant at W63N170 Washington Ave.
The application is still pending and the Cedarburg Common Council will take action on it at its meeting on Feb. 12. We regret the error.
