Today will be the hottest day of the new week along the Front Range with highs reaching 100 degrees in many areas along and east of Interstate 25. The record for Denver is 98 degrees set just a few years ago in 2022.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 8 p.m. for Denver, Greeley, Boulder, Fort Collins and surrounding areas.

There is a decent chance to see scattered thunderstorms this afternoon in Colorado. For areas west of the Continental Divide we could see some locally heavy rain.

For locations to the east, including Denver and the Front Range Urban Corridor, the storms will encounter a dry layer of air at the surface. That will mean more wind and lightning than rainfall. This is not good news for the local firefighting efforts.

It will remain hot for the first half of the week with highs in Denver hitting the low to middle 90s between Monday and Wednesday. We’ll see a chance for showers and storms each afternoon, with Tuesday potentially bringing a few strong to severe storms that could produce large hail.

A dramatic shift in the weather pattern will arrive starting on Thursday with highs dropping about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year. We’ll also see a much better chance to get some measurable rain.

SUNDAY: Sunny and hot with a record high of 100. We’ll see a few gusty afternoon storms. Turning quiet overnight, low 68.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny and hot with a few scattered afternoon storms, high 95. Mostly clear overnight, low 65.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy and hot with a few afternoon storms, some could be severe, high 94. Mostly cloudy overnight, low 65.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny with a few afternoon storms, high around 92. Mostly cloudy and breezy overnight, low 61.

THURSDAY: Much cooler with showers and a few thunderstorms, high 77. Mostly cloudy overnight with scattered showers, low 55.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy with afternoon showers and storms, high around 79. Mostly cloudy overnight, low 57.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning with a few storms in the afternoon, high 83. Mostly clear overnight, low 61.

SUNDAY: Seasonal with a high around 88 and a slight chance of rain showers. Clearing overnight with a low of 60.
