Thanks to having one of the best records in baseball over the past month, the Tigers moved up to third in the American League Central, snagging the last Wild Card spot. They have been led by their Triple Crown pitcher, Tarik Skubal, who is a leading candidate for the Cy Young Award. Along with big-time hitters like Riley Greene, Colt Keith and Wenceel Perez, the Bengals have found a formula that has stormed through some of the top teams in baseball.
They are gearing up to take on the AL West, the Houston Astros, manager AJ Hinch’s former team. The Astros finished the regular season with the worst record among the three division champions in the American League. They have a core that has carried the team through long playoff runs for the last several years. Yordan Alvarez, Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman were big parts in the team’s 2022 World Series run, and have high expectations to make another deep postseason push.
This will be the first time the first two teams have met in the playoffs. During the regular season, the ‘Stros won four of the six meetings, including two of three in Houston in May.
Probable Starters
- DET: Tarik Skubal
