ALBANY – Port Chester’s Laila Builes and Nyack’s Emily Rodriguez were among state champions at the inaugural New York State girls wrestling championships on Thursday at MVP Arena. Read here for the full report.

Today, Thursday, the first-ever New York State girls wrestling championship will be contested at MVP Arena in Albany. We’ll have live updates here.

9:30 a.m. Parade of Champions/Star-Spangled Banner

10 a.m.-noon Preliminaries

Noon-2 p.m. Quarterfinals

2 p.m.-4 p.m. Semifinals and Wrestlebacks

4 p.m. Finals

Port Chester’s Laila Builes at 100 pounds defeated Jasmine Brucato of Alexander by a pinfall in 5:45 to win the New York State girls wrestling championship.

Nyack’s Emily Rodriguez won the state title at 185 pounds by pinfall over Brynn Shepardson of Little Falls, 4:41

Ursuline’s Gianna Cruz placed second, losing in the 107-pound final to Port Jervis’ Charlie Wylie in a 15-4 technical fall.

Laila Builes of Port Chester at 100 pounds, Gianna Cruz of Ursuline at 107 and Emily Rodriguez of Nyack have advanced to New York State girls wrestling championship bouts at the inaugural event at MVP Arena in Albany.

Builes, the fourth seed, upset top-seeded Zoey Jewett of General Brown by technical fall, 10-0. Cruz, an 11 seed, pinned the second seed Carlyle Ana Boenau of La Salle in 5:26. Rodriguez pinned sixth-seed Emily Dudar of Shaker in 48 seconds.

Arlington’s Aislin Kellner fell in the semifinal at 94 pounds to top-seeded Samantha Massey of Mount Markham by pinfall in 1:43. She placed third. Eastchester’s Tatiana Alexander placed fifth at 94. Putnam Valley’s Delina Gritz placed fourth at 185.
