The popular Tex-Mex spot has operated out of its Knox District location on McKinney Avenue since 1993.

DALLAS — Popular Tex-Mex restaurant Chuy’s has announced when it will move from its Knox District location in Dallas after more than 30 years.

The Texas-based chain confirmed Thursday that the Knox District location will close April 20 and the staff will be moved to a new restaurant less than 10 minutes away at 1520 Greenville Avenue, the former home of Desert Racer, on April 28.

Chuy’s announced plans for the move in August.

The restaurant had operated out of the Knox District location on McKinney Avenue since 1993, the Dallas Business Journal reported. It debuted in Dallas in the West End in 1987. The brand was founded in Austin in 1982.

As of July 2024, there were 101 Chuy’s locations in 15 states, including Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, and more, our sister station KVUE reports. There are just over 10 Chuy’s locations in North Texas, according to their website.

The move comes as Darden Restaurants, which operates Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Eddie V’s, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and more, took over Chuy’s in July of last year in a deal valued at about $605 million.
