CeeDee Lamb says one of the keys for the Dallas Cowboys to return to an elite level next season is … More
CeeDee Lamb knows better than anybody that he and the Dallas Cowboys need to be better next season.
The Cowboys were arguably the most disappointing team of the 2024 season, going 7-10 after three consecutive 12-5 seasons. Dallas’ first losing season since 2020 led to head coach Mike McCarthy being fired.
Despite entering the season as potential Super Bowl contenders, the bottom fell out in Dallas — and Lamb acknowledges that he and the entire team need to “get more done” in 2025 in order to get back to playing at an elite level.
The four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver mentions how he needs to be healthier and be more available for his team after missing a couple of games.
”For one, stay healthy,” says Lamb in a one-on-one interview on how the Cowboys can be better. “Let’s start there. I feel like we can get a lot more done, myself included, because towards the end of the season, I was a little banged up. I know for my team, the best thing that I could do is be available and I take real true accountability to that. I’m a huge believer in it.”
For the first time since the 2021 season, Lamb missed a game. In fact, he’s only missed three games during his five-season career. It’s not a stretch to say that when Lamb is on the field, the Cowboys are a better team. The 26-year-old receiver is arguably the best wide receiver in the game and posted a league-leading 135 receptions for 1,749 receiving yards during the 2023 season — both franchise records.
”The more we’re out there, the better the results are,” says Lamb of himself and the Cowboys as a whole staying healthy. “Just staying out there, staying positive, making a great impact, and doing what I do.”
Dallas will enter the upcoming season without a key franchise pillar in guard Zack Martin, who spent all 11 seasons of his career with the Cowboys (2014-2024). Martin called it a career in the offseason after nine All-Pro selections and nine Pro Bowl berths.
There’s little doubt that Martin’s resume is impressive and he’ll one day head to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, what’s most impressive about Martin is his ridiculously high level of consistency, committing just seven holding penalties during his entire career. Since the start of the 2020 season, Martin committed just one holding penalty.
The Cowboys will have huge shoes to fill at right guard with the retirement of Martin.
“ I love Zack,” says Lamb of Martin. “He’s literally like a brother. For the first five years that I’ve met him, he welcomed me with open arms.. He’s had the greatest career that I’ve ever seen. Honestly. when you got more awards than you do penalties, you’re kind of doing something right.
“Shout-out to Zack,” Lamb continues to say. “He deserves every piece of hardware, jacket, everything else that comes with it because he showed you every day what it is to be a pro. He definitely set the tone for myself and I appreciate that, I appreciate him for that.
While they’ll be without their longtime franchise guard, the Cowboys have both their franchise receiver and franchise quarterback Dak Prescott locked in for the long term. Lamb signed a $136 million deal with $100 million guaranteed prior to the start of the season while Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million contract extension ($60 million annually) which makes him the highest-paid player on an average annual basis in NFL history.
While the looming big contract for star linebacker Micah Parsons has yet to take place, Lamb is confident that the Cowboys will sign his friend and teammate to a long-term deal. He also mentions how he and Prescott “understand” what Dallas needs to do to be a contender again.
”At the end of the day, we definitely gotta do what’s right for the team and we understand where we want to go,” says Lamb. “We gotta do what we have to do. With that being said, whatever’s necessary, we’re looking forward to doing that and making that happen. Micah’s coming up with a big payday, so very excited for him, deservingly so.
“And yeah, we’re going to make another run at this thing,” Lamb continues to say.

The positive-minded Lamb further details why the “Choose Better” mantra actually resonates with him and his career and why it’s not just a marketing slogan.
”I feel like everyone has a time and a place where they feel like they can choose better or be better for one another,” says Lamb. “Just continue to stay positive throughout everything and just always being locked in as far as whatever the goal is. The end goal is stay on task, make the right decisions when needed and it’ll be fine. So end all, be all, choose better and make the right decisions.”
