Texas A&M (24-16, 8-10 SEC) once again took care of business during Tuesday’s midweek home matchup vs. Sam Houston for the second time this season, run-ruling the visitors 13-3 behind another great day at the plate. Redshirt freshman Blake Binderup continued his impressive streak, hitting two home runs while Kaeden Kent and Caden Sorrell also recorded home runs in the first three innings.
Jumping out to an 11-0 lead in the top of the fourth, freshman pitcher Gavin Lyons recorded four strikeouts while allowing one hit. Exiting at three innings, Aiden Sims and Clayton Freshcorn kept the Aggies clean, combining for six strikeouts. However, after Peyton Smith and Brad Rudis entered, the Bearkats scored three runs, but that isn’t anything to scoff at, given the run-rule.
While Blake Binderup’s day was impressive, Terrence Kiel II’s two-hit day included his first career home run with the Maroon & White, which was the perfect time right before the Aggies hit the road to face the No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns, who struggled against Texas State on Tuesday night.
Mid-week games are good opportunities to evaluate the bullpen, but consistency at the plate should be noted. With 15 hits, 12 RBI, and four home runs, including four players with multiple hits, the Aggies did what they had to do to earn a win and get ready for the most significant season of the year.
