When the UFC puts on big events, the world watches. Often, cards are stacked with big title fights while the future of combat sports showcase their skills. UFC CEO Dana White looks to do all that and more when the company heads to the Sphere in Las Vegas on September 14.
The Sphere, a Madison Square Garden Company project, cost $2.3 billion. It features 580,000 square feet of LED displays, making any event almost an immersive experience. U2, Phish, and Dead & Company have held shows there. Now, the UFC looks to leave its mark.
The show will be around Mexican Independence Day. It is expected to be a PPV event, UFC 306 — though no matches have been officially announced. However, White believes the event will top anything anyone will ever do in the Sphere in the future.
“I’m telling you guys right now, we literally just went through the storyboards two days ago on this thing — this is going to be the sickest live event in combat sports that anybody has ever seen, and it will never be done again,” White said at a post-fight press conference via MMA Fighting. “We’ve already spent a s——- of money on this thing. Nobody will ever pull this off again because nobody would spend the money to do it. Nobody’s going to spend the money to do what I’m doing over there right now. This is going to be a f—— masterpiece.”

A rumored fight on the card will be a trilogy fight between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko for the UFC flyweight title. Grasso beat Shevchenko for the belt at UFC 285. The two fought to a draw in a rematch last September, with the event dubbed UFC Noche.
Leading to the Sphere show, Grasso and Shevchenko will host the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter.
