Chicago is getting ready to celebrate a historic moment—and the whole city is invited.

On Saturday, June 14, the Archdiocese of Chicago will host a citywide celebration at Rate Field in honor of Pope Leo XIV, the first pope born and raised in the Chicago area. The event will include music, film, live testimonials, prayer, and a Catholic Mass.

Held at the home of the White Sox, the gathering is expected to draw thousands of residents and visitors for what the Archdiocese is calling a “once-in-a-lifetime” moment.

“Pope Leo XIV’s message of peace, unity and the key to a meaningful life have touched hearts across the globe,” the Archdiocese said. “This celebration is an extraordinary opportunity for people from the city and beyond to come together in shared pride for one of our own.”

The event comes just weeks after Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, was elected to lead the Catholic Church. His Chicago upbringing and global message have made his papacy especially meaningful to local communities.

The program will include:

  • Music performances celebrating Pope Leo XIV’s legacy
  • A short film capturing his life and message
  • In-person testimonials from community members
  • A prayerful Catholic Mass honoring his election

Cardinal Blase Cupich is encouraging the public to take part, releasing a video invitation earlier this week.

General promotion began this week, and organizers say more ticket and event information will be shared soon. Stay tuned and make plans to be part of a moment that brings faith, pride, and Chicago history together in one unforgettable afternoon.
