In a move to bolster the backbone of the local economy, Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis has unveiled the 2025 Mom and Pop Small Business Grant Program—an initiative that promises to put coins back into the palms of our neighborhood entrepreneurs. Eligible small business owners can now lay their eyes on grants upwards of $5,000, designed to cover critical expenses such as equipment purchases and marketing campaigns. “My father ran a small business for decades, and I grew up watching the long hours, the tough decisions, and the pride that came with building something of your own,” Commissioner Orbis shared in a statement to Miami-Dade Government News.

Starting June 2, eligible applicants with at least one year of experience can visit the District 6 Office to apply for a potentially transformative grant. The opportunity is open to all businesses operating within District 6, including home-based ventures, ensuring broad accessibility across the community. Details about the application process and eligibility can be found in the official Miami-Dade Government News release.

The Commissioner’s Office is taking a strategic approach by offering informational workshops to support potential applicants. Two sessions are scheduled: one at the West Miami Recreation Center on June 4 at 10 a.m., and another at Babcock Park on June 10 at 6 p.m. These workshops aim to equip prospective business owners with the knowledge they need to confidently navigate the application process.

The application window is brief, open only from June 16 through June 23 until 4 p.m., making timeliness essential. Applicants are encouraged to seek out all available resources for support, including contacting the District 6 Office via their hotline at 305-267-6377 or by email at [email protected].
