4-story mixed-use development coming to downtown New Braunfels

Construction for a new 4-story mixed-use condominium development named The Neue is anticipated to begin in early 2026, according to a June 3 New Braunfels Downtown Association presentation from Lindsey Gillum, managing partner of Gillum Properties.

Project overview

The 72,000 square-foot project will be located at 699 W. San Antonio St. and developed by Seals Family Properties and Gillum Development.

Gov. Greg Abbott signs cybersecurity bill establishing state command center

The future of cybersecurity in Texas has taken shape in San Antonio.

On June 2, Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 150 into law, establishing the Texas Cyber Command at The University of Texas at San Antonio. The command center will take over much of Texas’ digital security responsibilities.

Wafflelicious opens in New Braunfels

Wafflelicious, a new breakfast and lunch restaurant, opened its doors on May 16 at 2188 Hwy. 46, Ste. 109, in New Braunfels.

German immigrants David and Franziska Krinniger moved to New Braunfels from Munich seven years ago and wanted to open a space where everyone felt welcome.

New Braunfels to evaluate curbside green waste recycling program

The city of New Braunfels is evaluating its curbside green waste recycling program following a May 15 vote from Comal County Commissioners to no longer accept green waste at the county’s recycling center.

Green waste includes grass clippings, weeds and leaves, according to a news release.

What you need know

The May 15 decision formalizes a change in policy that has been in place since December. The change was prompted by a surplus of mulch the county already has on hand and other issues with contamination, particularly from green waste bags, according to the news release.

Schertz releases new garbage, recycling pickup schedules for residents

Starting the week of June 30, the city of Schertz will transitioning from Republic Services to Frontier Waste Solutions, following an agreement approved by Schertz City Council on April 1. Monthly costs for services will increase from $14.46 to $19.20.

Current situation

The city posted its updated schedules for pickup on social media May 30, along with reminders for residents about the transition to Frontier Waste Solutions services.
