MAGNA’s Global Ad Forecast summer update, released today, projects global advertising revenues for media owners to reach $969 billion in 2025, up +4.9% from 2024. Additional highlights of the report include: · The advertising revenues of Traditional Media Owners (TMO), including TV, radio, publishing, and out-of-home, are expected to erode by -3% to $261 billion, due to economic uncertainty. Adjusted for the lack of US elections and Olympics in 2025, global TMO revenues would be flat. · Digital Pure Players ad sales will grow +8% to $709 billion (73% of total ad sales). DPP growth is driven by rising usage, AI innovation, e-commerce competition, and retail media networks. · Search and Retail Media ads (e.g., Google, Amazon, Walmart) will rise +8% to $359 billion, remaining the largest DPP segment. Social Media ad sales will grow by +11% to $239 billion, while short-form video (YouTube, Twitch) will increase +7% to $80 billion. · The US ad market will grow +4.6% to $398 billion (excluding cyclical: +6.9%). TMO revenues will decline -7.1% to $104 billion (non-cyclical: -1.2%). DPP revenues will increase +9.6% to $294 billion (noncyclical: +10.1%). · The global ad market will re-accelerate in 2026 as the economy stabilizes and major events return, including Winter Olympics (Italy), FIFA World Cup (US), and US midterm elections. Global ad sales are projected to rise +6.3%, surpassing one trillion dollars for the first time.
Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Network has settled its $10 billion discrimination lawsuit against McDonald’s. Allen claimed McDonald’s prioritized its advertising budget in a way that left out minority-owned or controlled media platforms. The agreement calls for McDonald’s to continue to purchase advertising from ESN in a manner that aligns with its advertising strategy and commercial objectives and ESN will dismiss its lawsuit. McDonald’s is not admitting any wrongdoing, and the ads sold will be priced at market value. Said McDonald’s, “We are pleased that Mr. Allen has come to appreciate McDonald’s unwavering commitment to inclusion and has agreed to refocus his energies on a mutually beneficial commercial arrangement that is consistent with other McDonald’s supplier relationships. Our company’s unique three-legged stool model relies on mutual respect, and we look forward to ESN’s contributions to the betterment of our system.” Added Entertainment Studios Network in the joint statement, “We are pleased to find a resolution that maintains our business relationship. During the course of this litigation, many of our preconceptions have been clarified, and we acknowledge McDonald’s commitment to investing in Black-owned media properties and increasing access to opportunity. Our differences are behind us, and we look forward to working together.”
Lawyers for President Trump and Paramount Global are in talks to settle Trump’s $20 billion lawsuit against CBS over the editing of a pre-election “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris. “The Parties are engaged in active settlement discussions, including continued mediation,” said a court filing on Friday requesting an extension of court deadlines to June 30. Trump’s lawyers are seeking $25 million plus an apology, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

Projects in the works for Adult Swim include “The Elephant,” an animated special where one team is responsible for one of three acts without any knowledge of what the others are making. Creators including Rebecca Sugar (“Steven Universe”), Ian Jones-Quartey (“OK K.O.!”), Patrick McHale (“Over the Garden Wall”), and Pendleton Ward (“Adventure Time)” are participating in the animated event produced by Titmouse. |
Also coming to Adult Swim is “Keeping Up With the Joneses,” from creators Hugh Davidson, Rachel Ramras, and Larry Dorf.
