This weekend, the remodeling of the Texas baseball team’s outfield continued.

A source confirmed to the American-Statesman on Monday that UT center fielder Will Gasparino plans on entering the transfer portal. Orangebloods.com was the first to report on the impending exit of Gasparino, who has not yet publicly commented on the news.

After starting 58 times as a freshman, Gasparino was the starting center fielder for Texas in all but three of its games this season. Gasparino’s 13 homers ranked second among the Longhorns this season, and he committed just one error defensively.

But Gasparino hit just .227 in conference play and both he and third baseman Casey Borba were benched during a May 2 game at Arkansas for a baserunning blunder that Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle later described as “unforgivable.” Gasparino went just 2-for-13 at the plate in the NCAA Tournament as the Longhorns were upset in a regional they hosted.

Gasparino’s reported exit comes during an offseason that has seen Texas recruit outfielders Jack Moroknek (Butler), Kaleb Freeman (Georgia State) and Aiden Robbins (Seton Hall) out of the transfer portal. Tommy Farmer IV, who started 48 times for Texas in 2025, has transferred this summer and Matthew Scott II moved on to Weatherford College after seeing minimal playing time as a freshman. Star outfielder Max Belyeu will likely be selected in next month’s MLB draft.

That leaves Easton Winfield, Adrian Rodriguez, Jayden Duplantier and Jonah Williams as the only returners who saw significant playing time in the Texas outfield this season. Winfield opened the season as UT’s starting left fielder but was unable to hold onto that job while Rodriguez and Duplantier were recruited to Texas as infielders. Williams enrolled early during this spring and broke out in the season’s second half, but Texas has yet to really experience what playing both football and baseball will look like for the two-sport standout.
