SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The nation’s most difficult batter to strike out in all of Division I softball plays right here in the Upstate.
Taliyah Thomas, an outfielder for the USC Upstate Spartans was officially named by the NCAA as the statistical national champion in that category, according to an announcement from the school on Tuesday.
During the Spartans’ 2025 campaign, Thomas amassed a batting average of .373. She also logged 65 hits while only striking out twice in 52 games.
Thomas’ offensive output helped the Spartans to a Big South conference championship and NCAA Regionals appearance. She received first team all-conference honors along with being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-Region Third Team.
USC Upstate says they expect to see even more growth from Thomas heading into her senior season.
