According to the National Hockey League on Wednesday, former National Hockey League centre Riley Nash of Consort, Alberta has retired at the age of 36. Nash played 12 seasons in the NHL from 2011 to 2023.
Nash played with seven different franchises. He played five seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011 to 2016, two seasons with the Boston Bruins from 2016 to 2018, three seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2018 to 2021, shared his time with the Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Arizona Coyotes during the 2021 to 2022 season and played one game with the New York Rangers in 2023.
In 628 NHL regular season games, Nash had 63 goals and 113 assists for 176 points. He was a -11 with 144 penalty minutes, 18 power-play points, five shorthanded points, 10 game-winning goals, 752 shots on goal, 2627 faceoff wins, 320 blocked shots, 637 hits, 385 takeaways, and 134 giveaways.
Nash’s finest season came in 2017-18 with the Bruins. That year he had career highs in goals (15), assists (26), points (41), plus/minus (+16), blocked shots (67), and takeaways (55).
In the playoffs, Nash had two goals and six assists for eight points in 42 games. He was a -5 with 12 penalty minutes, 45 shots on goal, 176 faceoff wins, 33 blocked shots, 65 hits, 25 takeaways, and 15 giveaways. Both of Nash’s postseason goals were while with the Blue Jackets, and both goals came against the Lightning.
