MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Patients at UW-Health’s American Family Children’s Hospital got to see, touch, and take pictures with the National Hockey League Stanley Cup Wednesday.
The Florida Panthers won the NHL championship and the Stanley Cup back in June, and every team member gets a day to have the Cup.
Brian Riedel, the Panthers’ assistant athletic trainer, is from Sun Prairie and a UW-Stevens Point graduate. He decided to bring the Stanley Cup to Wisconsin and the children at UW-Health on his day with the Cup.
“I know some of these kids are going through some hard times, so just to put a smile on their face is all we want to do today and give them something to look at, admire, and hopefully inspire them to be a Stanley Cup champion someday,” said Riedel.
Riedel shared some facts and history about the Stanley Cup while the kids took an up-close look.
