Augusta Assistant Golf Coach Finishes Third at the Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open

Dalton, Ga.- Augusta assistant golf coach Ruan Pretorius fired three sub-70 rounds to finish at 6-under par in a tie for third place at the 74th playing of the Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open at Dalton Golf & Country Club. Pretorius finished two shots behind the winner of the event.

Pretorius shot rounds of 69-70-69-65 for a total of 273. He ended up making 17 birdies over the four rounds of the tournament.

Pretorius joined the AU men’s team as an assistant coach a year ago, this after serving as an assistant for the women’s team in the 2024-25 season. He also had a standout college career at Mississippi State and Point University. 

Jaguar golfer Mason Fundingsland was also in the field and finished in a tie for 20th. Fundingsland had rounds of 69-75-72-66 for a final score of 3-over-par. 

The Georgia Open is one of the top tournaments in the state of Georgia. The championship annually attracts hundreds of golfers entering to compete. The Georgia PGA runs statewide qualifiers for the Georgia Open, bringing together a final field of 144 of the state’s top professional and amateur golfers.
