ATLANTA — People at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport caught quite a sight on Wednesday evening after a van burst into flmaes in the passenger pickup area on the south side of the airport.
At about 7:33 p.m. smoke was reportedly coming from the glove compartment of a vehicle parked at the South Curb of Hartsfield-Jackson, said Alnissa Ruiz-Craig, interim director of the airport’s Office of Communications and Media Affairs.

The vehicle caught fire, and the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department quickly responded and extinguished the fire.
As a precaution, all traffic was temporarily diverted to the South Lower Level, and customer service representatives were on site, redirecting passengers from the area. There were no reports of injuries at this time.
Roadway traffic in the area experienced moderate congestion. The airport otherwise operated normally, Ruiz-Craig said.
It’s currently unknown how the fire started.
The upper deck was reopened by about 10:30 p.m. once the van was removed.
