San Antonio to build new trail connecting LBJ Park to Perrin Homestead

A new concrete trail is coming to Lady Bird Johnson, LBJ, Park, connecting Perrin Homestead’s existing sidewalks to the city’s Howard W. Peak Greenway trail network.

The gist

San Antonio City Council approved the contract with RCO Construction to build the 1.48-mile-long, 10-foot-wide concrete trail, which will run west align the floodplain near St. Mary’s Hall Preparatory School and continues northwest to link with Lady Bird Johnson Park’s existing trailhead during its Aug. 7 meeting.

Trail amenities include:

  • An elevated 10-foot-wide boardwalk over low-lying areas near LBJ Park
  • A concrete overlook pad with a shaded canopy for rest and scenic viewing
  • A drinking fountain
  • Signage
  • Landscaping
  • Accessible existing parking Perrin Homestead
  • A call box

According to city documents, the total contract amount of $3,628,355 will be funded through the 2022 Bond funds.
