After almost eight football-less months, schools return to the gridiron for the second season of the 12-team College Football Playoff. Ohio State ran the gauntlet in year one of the expanded playoff, defeating Notre Dame 34-23 for its second CFP championship.
The new season features changes to the playoff bracket, where the top four conference champions no longer receive automatic byes into the quarterfinals. The five highest-ranked conference champions will still receive an automatic bid, however.

It is a slim Week 0 schedule, with just nine FBS teams in action on Saturday. No. 17 Kansas State and No. 22 Iowa State headline football’s return, facing off in Dublin, Ireland to start the day. Last season, Georgia Tech took down then-No. 10 Florida State in this overseas matchup, sparking Week 0 fireworks.
