The Saint Paul City Council is calling for nominations for its 9th Annual Business Awards Program, a city-wide initiative aimed at recognizing the dedication and impact of local entrepreneurs. According to the Council’s recent announcement, starting September 1, community members can nominate businesses that have contributed to Saint Paul’s growth and entrepreneurial culture. “Saint Paul’s small businesses are the foundation of our neighborhoods,” City Council President Rebbeca Noecker emphasized in a statement made by the official city website.

The nomination process, which runs through October 17th, is part of the city’s efforts to acknowledge diverse businesses that resonate with the spirit and values of Saint Paul. Vice President and Ward 5 Councilmember HwaJeong Kim told the city’s news outlet, “Our city has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit that breathes life into our neighborhoods through local new shops and classic Saint Paul destinations.” This year’s categories include the Alice O’Brien Award for woman-owned businesses, the Good Neighbor Award for community-focused enterprises, the Traditions Award for long-term business contributions, the People’s Choice Award, and the New Kid on the Block Award for newer businesses.

Past recipients of these awards have expressed great appreciation for the recognition they have received. Blake Montpetit, owner of Tiffany Sports Lounge and the 2024 Traditions Award winner, shared with the city’s news service, “Receiving the Legacy Award from the City of Saint Paul is an incredible honor.” Similarly, LaShante Grigsby, owner of Flava Cafe and recipient of the 2024 New Kid on the Block Award, reflected on the importance of community acknowledgment: “Receiving this award is a reminder that there are mutual value and appreciation in the work I do,” as stated by the City of Saint Paul.

To be eligible for the 2025 Business Awards, nominations must be lodged by October 17, and businesses can apply until October 24. The winners will be publicly honored at an October City Council meeting. Those interested in nominating a Saint Paul business can find more details and submission forms on the official Saint Paul city website.
