ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Virginia Tech Football has touched down in Atlanta, where the team is gearing up for its first game of the 2025 season.
The Hokies are kicking off against No. 13 South Carolina on Sunday at 3 p.m., facing off inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Hokies are coming off a 6-7 season. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks finished 9-4 last year winning six straight games before a close loss in the 2024 Citrus Bowl.
Ahead of this match up Head Coach Brent Pry spoke to the media about the unique atmosphere and how they prepared for this big stage. He said they’ve been playing crowd noise a bunch, so if it’s louder than expected they’ll be ready.
Some big changes to the roster this season welcomes in 30 newcomers, spanning nearly every position group.
Coach Pry talked about punter Nick Veltsistas. He’s a first year starter, but has been with the team for a while now.
“Nick has always had a really strong leg and has always impressed us with some boomers. But, he’s always had that shank every fourth or fifth kick. But, these last two mini camps, I had to complement him because there was no shank. He hit some really good punts,” Pry said. “He is booming those things. He is a first year starter but he is a veteran and has been around a long time and I’m exited for him.”
Next up, the Hokies are under home lights for three weeks. They face off against Vanderbilt on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m.
