Phoenix City Council members last week applauded a planned shopping center in Laveen they say answers the call for the type of development many area residents have long asked for.
“We know that the community has been asking for shops and restaurants, and you’re doing your part to help us get there,” Councilmember Kesha Hodge Washington told outgoing Community and Economic Development Director Christine Mackay during the Aug. 27 council meeting.
Council unanimously approved an amended development agreement for a 40-acre retail center at the southwest corner of 59th Avenue and Dobbins Road being developed by Vestar to be called the Laveen Towne Center. It is part of a larger 90-acre development that will add housing during later phases.
