LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — More than 140 warehouse workers with Smith’s grocery voted Monday to authorize a strike in Las Vegas.

The Teamsters Union says the vote comes after months of unfair labor practices by Kroger management and a refusal from management to bargain seriously.

Workers said they want a fair contract to bring wages and benefits with the pay other teamster union members are receiving at Kroger stores nationwide.

“All we want is a fair contract that brings us in line with the wages and benefits other Teamsters at Kroger already have nationwide,” said Juan Castillo, a Kroger/Smith’s warehouse worker and Local 14 member. “A strike is the last thing we want, but if the company keeps dragging its feet and violating our rights, they’ll leave us with no choice.”

FOX5 received a statement from Smith’s. Officials said they remain committed to reaching a fair agreement.

“Negotiations with dry grocery warehouse associates at our Las Vegas distribution center are ongoing, and we remain committed to reaching a fair agreement that invests in our associates while keeping groceries affordable for our customers,” Smith’s said. “Our associates play a vital role in the success of our zero-waste distribution center, which opened in 2024, and is now undergoing its first contract negotiation. Strike authorizations are a routine part of the bargaining process, and we are confident we will reach a fair and balanced resolution.”
