PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has died after being involved in a crash overnight in west Phoenix.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Thomas Road near Interstate 17 around 1 a.m. on Monday. Phoenix Police said officers found the male driver unconscious and in critical condition inside the involved SUV.

First responders later pronounced the 59-year-old man dead at the scene. He has not yet been publicly identified.

Thomas Road was closed in both directions from 27th Avenue to I-17, but the road reopened around 6:20 a.m.

An initial investigation found that the driver lost control of the SUV, then hit the center raised median and a metal pole.

This crash remains under investigation.
