Crews repaired the water main break, but the area around Spring Street is closed off until restoration is complete.
ATLANTA — Atlanta commuters were met with heavy traffic and detours Thursday morning after repairs were still underway at a busy Midtown intersection.
Crews were still making sinkhole repairs at the intersection of Spring Street NW and 17th Street Northwest, after a water main break and a gas line break on Wednesday night. Workers were able to repair the gas line break around 9 p.m., according to the Department of Watershed Management.
Workers were able to repair the sinkhole around the breaks by Thursday morning but had to pivot plans for other repairs.
A spokesperson with the DWM said that instead of installing manhole covers, it chose to fully repair the road instead. This construction will close off the area until restoration is complete, which could be as early as 4 p.m.
Evening commuters are advised to check traffic and detours before hitting the road. Drivers are urged to travel with caution through the area and, if possible, use alternate routes.
