Charlie Kirk’s power as a conservative activist was anchored in having become a fixture on college campuses.

Like at Arizona State University, where KJZZ went to find members of the school’s Turning Point USA chapter.

Less than 24 hours after Kirk was assassinated, there was no sign of Turning Point members gathering to mourn at Old Main, the library or nearby student union.

A Turning Point USA chapter meeting at ASU was canceled on Wednesday.

Turning Point ASU has scheduled a candlelight vigil at Hayden Lawn on Monday evening to honor Kirk.

But Kirk was still front of mind for Aleksandar Lucic as he set up to spend the day in the metro Phoenix heat evangelizing to students. Lucic works for Orthodox Christian Fellowship campus ministry.

Lucic, who goes by Speedy, said he’s a fan of Kirk for having made it easier for college kids to share opinions not widely held on campus.

“His perspectives were often misinterpreted, misunderstood, not talked about in depth,” Lucic said.

Lucic’s job is to engage students, and he admires Kirk’s endurance to spend 13 years having done the same kind of work.

“You don’t really see too many people that actually engage in honest dialogue. I think a lot of people like to do one directional,” Lucic said.
