*LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Education Partnership (LAEP), a nonprofit with over 40 years of experience in educational equity, is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by bringing vibrant cultural celebrations directly to students and families in its partner communities.
As part of the nationwide recognition of Hispanic Heritage, LAEP is hosting and participating in a series of events throughout the month, with a focus on uplifting the rich cultures and contributions of Hispanic communities. The organization’s work is rooted in the belief that strong schools are built with the community, from diapers to diplomas.
On Friday, September 26, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, LAEP’s own Samira Galvan, Community Schools Coordinator at Harrison Elementary, will host a special Hispanic Heritage Month celebration during the school’s recess. The event will feature a performance by a folklorico group that includes LAEP’s Senior Evaluator, Alejandra Portillo, and her son.

This celebration is part of a larger, month-long effort by LAEP to provide holistic, culturally-relevant programming that supports students and families.
“Our Community Schools are a hub for celebrating culture and building a strong sense of belonging,” said Galvan. “Events like these reinforce our commitment to honoring the diverse heritage of our students and creating joyful learning experiences.”
LAEP’s leadership in educational equity and its commitment to community-driven initiatives continue to set a standard for what is possible when partners work together to uplift students, families, and schools.
