BOONE, N.C. – The App State men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to host the Firetower Project Run on Friday at the Don Kennedy Trails at State Farm in Boone. The men’s 8K is scheduled for 5 p.m. with the women’s 6K to follow at 5:40 p.m.
Joining the Mountaineers in Friday’s competition will be The Citadel, Coastal Carolina, College of Charleston, Erskine, Firetower Project, Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Lees-McRae, Lenoir-Rhyne, Milligan, Radford, SCAD Savannah, and William & Mary.
During Friday’s 3 p.m. field hockey match and 5 p.m. cross country meet there will be a selfie scavenger hunt for fans to participate in. There will be an opportunity for four people to win App State Field Hockey or App State Cross Country gear.
Last Time Out
For a second consecutive meet during the 2025 season, sophomore Thomas Wlazlowski set pace for the Mountaineer men at the Virginia Invitational (Sept. 12). Wlazlowski clocked an 8K time of 24:58.1 to place 10th overall. He came within 13 seconds of his personal best of 24:45.6, which he set last fall. The Waxhaw, N.C. native earned his first career Sun Belt Runner of the Week nod for his performance. Following Wlazlowski at the Virginia Invitational was senior Ethan Lipham, who placed 11th with a time of 24:59.4. Rounding out the top 25 was redshirt senior Chase Burrell (25:10.8, 19th) and freshman Tate Shore (25:12.7, PR, 21st). The men placed third in the team standings with 88 points.
In the women’s 5K race, freshman Elizabeth McCart led the Mountaineers with a personal best time of 18:06.1. McCart improved upon her previous personal best by 36 seconds and placed 21st overall. Sophomore Breanna Budzinski and freshman Josie Jackson rounded out the top 35 with times of 18:09.3 and 18:20.6, respectively. In the team standings, the Mountaineer women placed sixth with 141 points.

The Mountaineers will head to Princeton, NJ for the Princeton Fall Classic on Oct. 17 to close the regular season. The women’s 5K is set for 10:30 a.m. with the men’s 8K to follow at 11:15 a.m.
