The NFL has fined Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones $250,000 for his “inadvertent” obscene gesture toward fans at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.

The Cowboys are likely to appeal but have until Friday to make a final decision.

Videos on social media showed Jones quickly flashing his middle finger late in the Cowboys’ 37-22 victory over the New York Jets — after Dak Prescott’s fourth touchdown pass increased the lead to 37-14.

MLB

ALDS action

The Yankees staved off elimination, slipping past the Blue Jays 9-6; Toronto still leads the series 2-1.

The Mariners took a 2-1 series lead against Detroit following last night’s 8-4 win over the Tigers.

And in Rangers news, the team signed free-agent reliever Declan Cronin to a two-year minor league contract, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. Cronin underwent Tommy John surgery last month and will miss next season, so this is about adding bullpen depth for 2027.

Cronin reunites with former Marlins manager Skip Schumaker, who’ll take over the Texas dugout next season. He led Miami relief pitchers with 70 1/3 innings in 2024, Schumaker’s final season in South Florida.

NBA

The Dallas Mavericks made a slight edit to their roster on Tuesday afternoon, as they signed Dalano Banton to a training camp deal, releasing guard Matthew Cleveland in the process. Banton is a wiry 6-foot-8 guard with a dynamic handle, but a lack of strength and inefficiency from outside have limited him from breaking into a consistent role with an NBA team.

However, Banton could be the perfect player to replace Dante Exum in Dallas, given that they are both bigger-bodied guards who can use their length and foot speed to their advantage at the point of attack. Still, Banton is only 25 years old and is far less injury-riddled compared to Exum.

NFL
