Upscale Italian food hall co. Eataly plans Houston debut

The company is a favorite among foodies and is known for offering a range of Italian food and beverage options under a single roof.

HOUSTON — A global Italian food hall company that has become a favorite among foodies appears to be preparing to enter the Houston market for the first time, setting its sights on a Galleria-area retail plaza.

Eataly, which is known for operating large-scale food halls that incorporate restaurants, food and beverage counters, bakeries, retail items and food-preparation classes, has submitted paperwork to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation outlining plans to bring the concept to the Centre at Post Oak.

The Oct. 24 filing said the company is planning an $11.5 million build-out of a 20,050-square space in the retail plaza at 5000 Westheimer, which also is home to a Marshalls-Home Goods, Old Navy and Morton’s The Steakhouse, as well as the second U.S. location of Canada-based Moxie’s Grill and Bar.

The TDLR filing said the build-out is scheduled to begin in January and is expected to be completed by September of next year.
