The former Houston’s restaurant is changing hands.

On Nov. 7, Cordova-based 5000 Poplar LLC purchased the former Houston’s location at 5000 Poplar Ave. for $2.1 million, according to the Shelby County Register of Deeds.

Previously, Phoenix, Arizona-based Hillstone Restaurant Group Inc. owned the property and opened Houston’s in 1983. In December 2024, the restaurant group permanently closed the East Memphis restaurant.

Developer Walker Huey manages the Cordova-based 5000 Poplar LLC.

Despite the ownership change for the property, it is still unclear what the future plans on for the former restaurant space.

In March, a zoning letter filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development had identified Spell Restaurant Group as the proposed tenant for the former Houston’s space. Spell Restaurant Group also operates Brookhaven Pub and Babalu.
