The college football coaching carousel has exploded in recent weeks as nine Power 4 programs are looking for a new leader for 2026.

12 FBS schools need a new head coach, and more programs are expected to make changes by the end of November.

Florida State’s situation with head coach Mike Norvell drew a lot of chatter on Sunday, but the Noles are appearing to stick with their plan of waiting until the end of the regular season to have a “comprehensive” review.

On Monday, an FCS program decided to make a change at head coach, one day after Samford announced it was parting ways with Chris Hatcher.

Per a news release by Weber State, the school fired head coach Mickey Mental. Brent Myers was named as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

“We want to thank coach Mental for his efforts and the passion he put into our football program,” Weber State athletic director Tim Crompton said via the news release. “We wish nothing but the best for him and his family in the future.”

Mental, 40, went 13-20 overall and was 8-14 in Big Sky Conference play during his three seasons at Weber State. He served as the Wildcats offensive coordinator in 2022 before being promoted to head coach after Jay Hill took the defensive coordinator/assistant head coaching job at BYU in 2023.

Mental was the head coach of the Notre Dame Falcons for two seasons before joining Weber State. He went 16-2 overall and 14-1 in Mountain East Conference play with Notre Dame, leading the Falcons to an appearance in the Division II second round in 2021. He won two conference championships with the Falcons.

Weber State was blown out 66-14 by No. 3 Montana State on Saturday. The Wildcats are 3-7 overall and 1-5 in Big Sky play amid a three-game losing streak.

Weber State will travel to play Idaho State on Saturday before finishing the regular season at home against Northern Arizona on Nov. 22.
