The Boston Red Sox are in a good spot heading into the offseason. After sneaking into the playoffs last season, the Sox are armed with loads of money and assets that are expected to be used to increase the level of talent on their major-league roster.
There are several areas of need that Boston is expected to look to address over the next few months. Finding a de facto No. 2 starter to work behind Garrett Crochet appears to be on that list, and so is adding a corner infielder, especially if Alex Bregman ends up bolting after opting out of his contract to test the waters of free agency.
It’s still very early in the offseason, so the Sox are being linked to just about every player possible. If you ask MLB insider Jim Bowden of The Athletic, he thinks that Boston trading for Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta and signing either Pete Alonso or Bo Bichette in free agency are a pair of “realistic” moves that could be made.
“I think it’s realistic they trade for Peralta and sign Alonso or Bichette in free agency and if they are able to do both, they’ll be a real threat to win the AL East and once again become a legitimate postseason team,” Bowden wrote.
Trading for Peralta could give the Sox a lethal one-two punch atop their starting rotation, while signing Alonso or Bichette could help manager Alex Cora fill in the team’s infield, in addition to giving the lineup another power bat to help produce runs on a nightly basis.

These are only a pair of moves that Boston could end up making, and it feels like anything is possible since the offseason has only just gotten underway. As a result, the Red Sox will be one of the most interesting teams to keep tabs on over the coming months.
