It’s all part of an ongoing AI arms race that has seen Google, Apple and other tech giants spend huge sums of money in Texas and abroad.
MIDLOTHIAN, Texas — Google LLC plans to invest $40 billion in data centers in Texas through 2027, the company announced Nov. 14 in Dallas.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of both Google and parent company Alphabet Inc., said the technology giant is amping up its data center investment, including plans for three new data centers, during the event at Google’s data center in Midlothian.
One of those new centers will be in Armstrong County, near Amarillo, and two will be in Haskell County, north of Abilene.
It’s all part of an ongoing AI arms race that has seen Google, Apple and other tech giants spend huge sums of money in Texas and abroad.
Google’s investment doubles down on its already robust presence in Texas, including extensive data operation in North Texas.
Gov. Greg Abbott said by the time Google’s projects are completed, they will add up to the company’s largest investment in the country.
