SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — New details have surfaced in the disappearance of 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard, whose mother allegedly traveled through five states with her daughter in tow.
Private investigator Bill Garcia has been working with Criminally Obsessed and gave ARC Salt Lake an exclusive interview on his findings in this case.
Buzzard has been missing for over a month – time that included a five-state road trip with her mom, Ashlee Buzzard. Her last official sighting was on October 9th along the Utah and Colorado border.

Evidence showed she changed her license plates and wore wigs as a possible disguise.
New information showed her back in California near her home in Ventura County, according to Garcia.
However, there have been no official sightings of Melodee returning to the area. Details about her safety were also still unknown.
The route they took passes through an important landmark – Melodee’s father’s gravesite at the Santa Maria Cemetery.
Ashlee was later arrested on unrelated charges. The court ordered her to wear an ankle monitor to track her movements.

Anne Emerson of the Criminally Obsessed podcast spoke to defense attorneys about why there have been a lack of questions about Melodee. Those attorneys say Ashlee refuses to answer any questions from police.
“There is a lot of concern that they could taint evidence,” Emerson said. “It could be due to Miranda rights. We know how important that is to make sure that she’s got her Miranda rights when she’s talking. But the main thing is Ashlee is not talking.”
Ashlee was due in court Wednesday, where a pretrial hearing was scheduled for the next day.
