Lane Kiffin is still the head football coach at Ole Miss as of Friday, Nov. 21, yet the news continues to involve Kiffin and a job he currently does not have.
However, if LSU has any say, Kiffin won’t be the head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels for much longer.
Friday night, as first reported by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, LSU is preparing a massive offer to move Kiffin from powder blue and red, to purple and gold. An offer reportedly worth $90 million dollars over seven years is in the works, the incentive-laden contract will also include $25 million dollars in NIL and roster investments.
Despite criticizing former LSU athletic director Scott Woodward for contracts with high price tags, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has ok’d the deal to land Kiffin. If Kiffin were to accept LSU’s offer, it marks the first important win for new athletic director, Verge Ausberry, who took over the role earlier this month.
Kiffin has made no secret of the courtship between he, his current employer Ole Miss and two schools hot on his trail, LSU and Florida. However, it seems that LSU is prepared to make the first move, one that would take Kiffin out of Oxford although Ole Miss remains in playoff contention.
Friday afternoon, Kiffin met with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter and school chancellor Glenn Boyce, with Kiffin making an announcement on his future as early as next Saturday, following the Rebels Egg Bowl showdown with Mississippi State on Friday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m.
“Coach Kiffin and I have had many pointed and positive conversations regarding his future at Ole Miss, including meeting today with Chancellor Boyce,” Carter said in a statement.
“While we discuss next steps, we know we cannot lose sight of what is most important — our sixth-ranked team that is poised to finish the regular season in historic fashion.”
The Ole Miss is on a bye week while LSU wraps up their regular season home slate with a game vs. Western Kentucky at 6:45 p.m. on SEC Network.
