McCord Art Gallery & Cultural Center turned Small Business Saturday into a lively blend of shopping, community giving and holiday fun, drawing families and neighbors to its annual celebration.
Held Nov. 29 at the gallery’s home at 9602 W. Creek Road, the event welcomed a steady stream of visitors despite Saturday’s snowy weather, which didn’t deter children or their families from attending. Instead, the cozy, wintry backdrop only added to the theme and charm of the day.
The celebration showcased handmade work from local artisans, inviting shoppers to browse jewelry, ornaments, artwork and other one-of-a-kind pieces. Children stayed busy at the face-painting station, enjoyed a screening of Frosty the Snowman, and met the makers behind the creations.
Original Plush Horse Ice Cream added a sweet touch to the afternoon, and Frosty the Snowman — played by Ben Kubicki, Palos Park socialite and McCord Gallery & Cultural Center board member — delighted young guests with photos and cheerful greetings.
This year, once again, McCord partnered with Kurland Insurance to serve as a Toys for Tots drop-off location. Visitors were encouraged to bring unwrapped gifts to support local families during the holiday season.
Organizers said the event embodied the spirit of Small Business Saturday by celebrating creativity, community and the small enterprises that help shape the village.
