STANFORD, Calif. — No. 2 UCLA (25-2) advanced to the NCAA Semifinals with a 15-11 win over No. 12 Princeton (23-10) on Friday night at Stanford’s Avery Aquatic Center. With the win, the Bruins improved to 23-0 against the Princeton Tigers, including 4-0 all-time at the NCAA Championship.
UCLA had seven different players score, paced by four goals each from sophomore Ryder Dodd and junior Frederico Jucá Carsalade. Jucá Carsalade led the Bruins with six total points, adding two assists in the win. He also recorded two field blocks and one steal in the all-around effort. Senior Gray Carson and redshirt senior Chase Dodd each scored two goals to round out the quartet of Bruins to score multiple goals in the contest.
Redshirt sophomore Nate Tauscher got the starting nod and went the distance, registering 10 saves, three steals, and one assist while allowing 11 goals to Princeton.
The Bruins got off to a strong offensive start, winning the first period, 5-1. UCLA won the second period, 3-2, to build a 8-3 at the break. The Bruins enjoyed an 11-5 lead (tied for the largest of the game) with 2:03 remaining in the third before the Tigers closed to 11-7 with back-to-back goals heading into the fourth. The Tigers never got closer than four goals as both teams battled to a 4-4 draw in the fourth to provide the 15-11 final.
